A traffic accident involving three tractor-trailers left one person dead in Jackson County. The crash in Jackson County happened on Thursday morning, June 24th. A news report revealed that the collision happened after a semi slowed down for traffic.
The report further stated that the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived at the scene of the crash in Jackson County at about 9:08 a.m. The accident happened precisely on Route 35 at Caves Road north of Jackson. Troopers said a semi was westbound on the highway when it attempted to slow down for a vehicle turning right onto Caves Road.
The OSHP said a second semi also heading west then reportedly struck the left-rear side of the first tractor-trailer. A third semi then struck the rear of the second vehicle. The state highway patrol added that a passenger in the second semi suffered severe injuries,
The man identified as Robert Martinez, 38, of Battle Creek, Michigan, by the Jackson County Coroner died at the collision scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified by the OSHP as Gregory Goodman, 56, of Okemos, Michigan, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. A helicopter conveyed him to a medical center.
The driver and passenger of the third tractor-trailer received treatment at the accident scene and refused to go to the hospital. The state highway patrol used the unfortunate incident to remind drivers to keep a clear distance when traveling.
Following too closely (tailgating) is a common cause of motor vehicle accidents, especially rear-end collisions.
