Single-Vehicle Crash in Richland Township Claims One Life

A single-vehicle crash in Richland Township claimed the life of one male driver. The Ohio State Patrol said the accident occurred on Sunday morning, June 13th. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time.

A news report revealed that the victim, Juan Lopez-Ortiz, a 32-year-old Marion resident was northbound on Richland Pike in Richland Township. His car veered off the east side of the roadway for unknown reasons, striking a tree and a mailbox in the crash in Richland Township. Medics took the man to Marion General Hospital, where medical personnel later pronounced him dead.

The OSHP said the man was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred. The Fort Morrow Fire Department and the Pleasant Township Fire Department assisted the highway patrol at the accident scene.

Motor vehicle accidents occur daily on Ohio roadways and result in injuries or death. These wounds are either minor, severe, or catastrophic. Examples are broken bones, fractures, traumatic brain injuries, or spinal cord injuries.

Several factors contribute to accidents, and the collision’s severity determines the degree of injuries. Some of the contributing factors are driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, distracted driving, speeding, tailgating, or illegal lane change. Furthermore, accidents can either be a single-car crash, two, or a multiple-vehicle collision.

Single-car accidents usually do not have any legal implications. If the victim survives, the best they can do is file an insurance claim if they have auto insurance coverage. However, liability is a big issue when a car collision involves multiple drivers.

Under the Ohio fault system, the at-fault driver is liable to pay damages. The latter covers compensation for physical injuries, emotional injuries, and any property damage.
