Fatal Crash in Newbury Township Claims Two Lives

Two people died in a car crash in Newbury Township. The fatal accident happened early Tuesday morning, on June 1st. A news report revealed that one of the two vehicles involved failed to obey a stop sign.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened on Sperry Road at Fairmount Road intersection. Around 7:40 a.m., troopers responded to the accident scene to see a serious injury crash. The investigators located a 2013 Lexus ES-350 and a 2015 Jeep Wrangler at the intersection.

The two vehicles had severe damage from the crash in Newbury Township. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Jeep was northbound on Sperry Road, with the Lexus heading east on Fairmount Road. The Lexus failed to obey a stop sign, and the Jeep struck it on the passenger side.

The Lexus continued off the roadway’s northeast corner, where it struck a stop sign, before resting on the roadside. Medics conveyed the driver, identified as 81-year-old Arthur Brown of Beachwood, Cuyahoga County, to University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, where he passed away. The state patrol said the man was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred.

The Lexus passenger, Harvey Rosenbaum, 85, of Pepper Pike, died at the scene. The man was also wearing a seat belt. The Jeep driver, 40-year-old Sandra Battaglia-Kobe, of Rome, suffered minor injuries. She received treatment at Cleveland Clinic-Hillcrest Hospital.

The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office, Newbury Township Fire and Rescue, Mason Healy Towing, and Bainbridge Towing assisted the state patrol with removing the wrecked vehicles. The accident remains under investigation.
