Man Changing Tire by the Roadside Dies in Perry Township Accident

A man changing a tire by the roadside died after a semi-trailer struck him. The Perry Township accident happened on Monday afternoon, November 8th. The crash report showed that the semi-trailer left its travel lane.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at about 2:24 p.m. on Interstate 71. The state troopers said the preliminary investigation revealed that James Covrett, 65, of Delaware, Ohio, was changing a tire on a disabled horse trailer. The semi-trailer then went off the right side of the road, striking the victim and the horse trailer.

The Richland County Coroner pronounced Covrett dead at the accident scene. One person with the victim and the three horses in the trailer he was hauling were uninjured. The semi-trailer driver was also uninjured. The Perry Township accident remains under investigation, and there is no criminal charge at this time.

Road accidents remain one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Vehicle crashes happen for several reasons but are majorly due to the negligent act of the at-fault driver. As such, an accident victim who desires compensation must show that the fault party behaved negligently.

To do this, the victim must prove the elements of negligence. They include the duty of care, breach of the duty of care, causation, and damages. Once the victim establishes these four factors, they will receive compensation for economic and non-economic damages.

However, proving the elements of negligence is not always very straightforward. It requires the legal knowledge and expertise of a legal professional. A lawyer knows what to watch for, and the type of evidence needed to win claims of this nature. Thus, it’s best to hire one.
