Residents in Cincinnati and ALT route Ohio are no strangers to DUI accidents. Driving Under the influence (DUI), operating while impaired(OWI), and operating a vehicle while impaired(OVI), are interchangeably used terms. In Saint Bernard Ohio, local police acknowledge that they suspect a driver was operating a vehicle while impaired as part of a single-vehicle rollover crash.
Single vehicle accidents often have drug or alcohol involvement unless there is a presence of extreme weather conditions. On August 5th, 2020, a driver behind the wheel of a Chevy Cruze struck a wall along I-75 near Mitchell Avenue. The crash happened at about 2:30 in the morning. The craft shut down Interstate 75 for a short time, with emergency responders quickly and detouring traffic.
After striking the wall, the vehicle turned onto its side, slid for nearly 75 feet, and finally came to rest. Saint Bernard police that arrived on the scene acknowledge that initial investigations show that no one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.
There was a driver, and two passengers, all of whom needed medical attention. The driver is currently at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and has sustained moderate injuries.
Saint Bernard police have not issued an update on the condition of the two passengers involved. One Lieutenant acknowledged that they were bounced around, but no details regarding their injuries were acknowledged. The name of the driver and the names of the passengers have not been released to the public. Local police have not given any reason for withholding the names.
Local police also report that there was the heavy smell of alcohol along with empty liquor bottles in the car. The crash is still under investigation, but it seems apparent that alcohol had a heavy presence in this accident.
