Two men from Chicago lost their lives in a rear-end accident in Fulton County. The rear-end accident happened on Wednesday night, September 8th. The cause of the crash is unknown at the time of this report.
According to the Swanton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to an accident in Fulton County at milepost 34.3 westbound just before 11 p.m. The trooper said a 2015 Kenworth semi-trailer was westbound on Interstate 80 in the right lane. Simultaneously, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van traveled behind it.
The van then rear-ended the tractor-trailer and became lodged under it. The OSHP said the semi pulled over to the north side of the road with the van attached to the trailer. The driver of the semi-trailer, Amadou Diarra, 53, of Laramie, Wyoming, was uninjured.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van driver, Krzysztof M. Augustyński, 44, and his passenger, Łukasz Pasierbowicz, 40, sustained fatal injuries. The investigation into the accident is ongoing. OSHP troopers were assisted at the scene by Wauseon Fire/EMS, Morenci Fire and Rescue, Ohio Turnpike Maintenance, and Hutch’s Towing and Recovery.
Motor vehicle collisions are one of the leading causes of non-natural deaths in the United States. When an accident involves a large vehicle like a semi, the smaller vehicle is often the most affected. While the truck driver might escape the crash unharmed, the passenger car driver and other occupants might suffer injuries or die.
In either case, what’s important is finding the fault party. This is because Ohio law allows accident victims to get compensation from the responsible driver. This compensation covers their medical bills and other losses.
