Woman Killed in Suspected DUI Crash in Allen County

Allen County recorded a fatality following a traffic accident on one of its rural roads. The single-vehicle crash in Allen County happened early Wednesday morning, September 29th. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, impaired driving might have caused the accident.

The state highway patrol said that at approximately 6:36 a.m., troopers with their Lima Post responded to a solo car crash on South Defiance Trail near Agerter Road. Upon arrival, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2020 Ford Escape operated by a 46-year-old female Lima resident was northbound on the roadway.

The car then traveled off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The investigators said the vehicle rested in a field. They identified the victim as Angela Steele, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the site of the crash in Allen County. The police said the woman was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The investigators added that impairment might have caused the occurrence. The OSHP had the assistance of the Spencerville Police Department, Spencerville Fire and EMS, and Able’s Towing Service. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and the state highway patrol reminded drivers to always use a designated sober driver and never drive impaired or distracted.

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the leading and most common causes of car accidents. An impaired driver’s cognitive ability does not function optimally, making it easier to have an erroneous judgment that would likely cause a crash. Under Ohio law, a person who causes an impaired accident would compensate anyone who gets injured.
