Two people were injured in a road shooting and crash on I-270 on October 29. Columbus police initially received reports of a collision on I-270 in the westbound lanes at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon. The crash was reported as being near Sawmill road. When Columbus Police arrived on the scene, they found that two people involved were shot, and there were multiple bullet holes in the vehicle.
This is one of a series of attacks involving shooting at vehicles while on an Interstate. One happened in Atlanta only a few days ago, while a series has been ongoing in California as well. Ohio is now among the many states fighting to understand and deter on-the-road shootings. Unfortunately for Columbus Police, this first vehicle was not the only affected by an on-the-road shooting on October 29th. Ohio has had on-the-road shootings before, with a few happening just last month.
These shootings do far more damage than the assault itself as they often lead to deadly collisions and injure those who were not targeted as part of the initial attack.
The two victims of the October 29 road shooting and crash were taken to a local hospital for immediate care. They were admitted in critical condition but were quickly stabilized. A second vehicle involved in the shooting was found shortly after this first vehicle.
Initially, it seems as though the shootings only resulted in the moderate crash that took place after the first shooting. However, Columbus Police are now trying to understand the crime and the collision. They believe that this was not a random attack but was instead a targeted assault. I-270 was closed for a while as police conducted their investigation and took reports for the scene. However, it was reopened shortly after, and traffic resumed as normal.
