A 73-year-old woman identified as Donna Galati passed away following a car accident in Claridon Township on Sunday evening, November 15th. According to a press release by the Ohio State Patrol, the crash took place at about 6:42 p.m. at the intersection of Ohio 98 and Ohio 309.
The OSP said 52-year-old John Galati of Caledonia was eastbound on Ohio 309 in a 2015 Chevrolet Trax. Simultaneously, 28-year-old Michael Wright of Bucyrus traveled south on Ohio 98 in a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox.
Wright failed to yield to a red light at the intersection and struck John's car. The collision impact severely injured Donna, who traveled as a passenger in the Trax. The Marion County Coroner's Office pronounced the woman dead at the scene, and the Boyd's Funeral Home transported her to the Lucas County Morgue.
The state patrol said the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the occurrence. John and another passenger in the Trax, 30-year-old James Galati, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at Marion General Hospital before getting transferred to Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Wright sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at the Marion General Hospital. A child passenger in the Equinox suffered the same degree of injuries and received treatment at the same hospital before getting transferred to Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Two other children in the Equinox were uninjured. The OSP said the crash remains under investigation. They were assisted by the Marion County Sheriff-Coroner's Offices, First Consolidated, Fort Marrow Township, Marion Township, and Pleasant Township Fire Departments, and Precise Towing.
